We could end homelessness permanently. According to federal estimates, it would cost roughly $20 billion to build enough permanent supportive housing to functionally end chronic homelessness in the U.S.
This war budget could have funded that goal 5.5 times over.
This money could fully fund the construction of roughly 375,000 brand-new, affordable housing units (assuming an average development cost of $300,000 per unit) to ease the housing crisis.
It could have fully eliminated student loan debt, and paid for Universal Pre-K. Funding universal high-quality preschool for every 3- and 4-year-old in the United States costs an estimated $20 billion to $25 billion per year. This 108-day war budget could have paid for nearly 5 years of free child-care nationwide.
This money could completely wipe out the federal student loan debt for roughly 3 million borrowers, freeing an entire generation from a lifetime of financial burden.
Instead of generational advancement for working-class Americans HERE IN AMERICA, we are creating generational violence, trauma, and debt.
