Welcome to another edition of Butler on the Beat!
On September 4th, officers were dispatched to an apartment for a fire alarm. Upon arrival, officers learned that a person previously banned was trespassing on the property. Officers arrested the individual and referred charges of Trespassing and four counts of bail jumping due to current open criminal cases to the District Attorney’s Office.
On September 6th, officers received a report of a stolen vehicle from a local residence. The vehicle was left unlocked with the key fob inside. It was later located and recovered in Gary, IN.
On September 8th, an officer conducted a traffic stop near N 127th St and W Hampton Ave for a vehicle operating without license plates. The driver did not have a valid driver's license and was cited for Operating After Revocation. The driver also had an arrest warrant through another agency. They posted bond on the warrant before being released.
On September 9th, officers received a report of a retail theft at a local business. While the officer was investigating, the suspect returned to the business. The suspect was arrested on scene and transported to Waukesha County Jail. The District Attorney's Office charged the suspect with retail theft and three counts of bail jumping for other open retail theft cases. The same suspect appeared in Waukesha County Court earlier that morning for an open retail theft case, left court, and immediately drove straight to Butler to commit the new theft - Wearing the same clothes he had on in court. Not the smartest criminal we’ve encountered.
On September 10th, an officer conducted a traffic stop near N 126th St and W Hampton Ave after observing a vehicle speeding. The driver was subsequently issued three citations for Operating without a Valid License (2nd violation within 3 years), Vehicle Operator Fail to Wear Seatbelt, and Exceeding Speed Zones (16-19MPH over).
On September 11th, officers were dispatched to a local business for a report of a subject trespassing. The suspect provided a fake name to the officer; however, the officer recognized him from a prior interaction. The subject was arrested for Obstructing an Officer and issued a municipal citation for Trespassing. Officers transported him to Waukesha County Jail.
On September 15th, an officer conducted a traffic stop near N 124th St and W Hampton Ave after observing a vehicle traveling at an estimated speed of 60mph in a posted 30mph zone. The officer’s RADAR unit confirmed the speed. The driver was issued two citations for Operating Without a Valid License and Exceeding Speed Zones (30-34MPH over).
On September 15th, an officer observed a vehicle known to have just been involved in a retail theft in Wauwatosa traveling through Butler. After a mutual aid request, our officer conducted a traffic stop near N 124th St and W Derby Pl. The driver was subsequently issued two state citations for Operating After Revocation and Operator Fail to Install an IID. The traffic stop was then turned over to Wauwatosa officers to investigate the retail theft in their city.
On September 19th at around 5:30 pm, our department was called to a local business for a 70-year-old female from Milwaukee who had dementia and walked away from the area. An extensive area check for the missing female was unsuccessful, so a Silver Alert was issued. The female was located safely, walking down N 124th St at approximately 7:30 am on September 20th by an officer on patrol. She was unharmed and said she stayed in a garage overnight to stay out of the rain. She was turned over to family members.
On September 21st, officers took a report of a retail theft. Officers identified the suspect and learned he was on probation and under GPS monitoring. The probation officer positively identified the suspect and confirmed his whereabouts. Officers arrested him in Milwaukee, and he is currently in custody. New charges are pending.
