August at BC3 PSTF

August is officially in the books, and it marked the start of a busy fall training season!

Our industrial classes are running full swing, and we hosted two Firefighter I & Support Firefighter certifications. We’ve also lost track of how many Fire/Rescue and HazMat classes we’ve offered!

Something new: Through a partnership with the Butler County Area Vocational-Technical School, we now have a group of students coming to BC3 PSTF every morning for their Fire, HazMat & EMS classes. We’re excited to be part of their training!

🅿️ And the big news everyone has been waiting for… You NO LONGER NEED A PARKING PASS to park on campus!

And who could forget Instructor Scootie, who moved a ton of bees from the burn building to their new home. Apparently, even the bees wanted some hands-on training!

And finally, we celebrated a birthday! - Our very own Kevin Smith, Director of Public Safety Training Facility and Programming, celebrated his birthday with us at the end of August.

Looking Ahead to September…
September kicks off our Fall Firefighter Entry-Level Program and our Fall Firefighter II Program. It’s going to be another busy month!

🚗 No More Parking Passes Required at BC3!

Parking permits will no longer be required at the BC3 Main Campus or any of our four additional locations.

What’s Changing

General Parking: No permit is needed to park in general lots at any BC3 location. Anyone may park in any available space, with the exception of designated faculty and accessible parking spaces.

Faculty Spaces: Designated faculty parking spaces will remain in place.

Accessible Parking: Accessible parking spaces remain reserved for vehicles displaying a valid handicap placard or license plate.
Why This Change?

This update reflects President Coval’s vision for stronger community partnerships and community engagement. It supports more welcoming and accessible locations for our onsite community partners, including Vintage, Lifesteps, and Armco Credit Union at the BC3 Main Campus, as well as visitors and community members who use our facilities at all BC3 locations.
Additional safety and security measures are being implemented to support this transition. This change will also allow for more efficient parking operations collegewide.

So, leave the parking pass at home and enjoy easier parking at BC3! 🚗

🐝🔥 What a Few Days! 🔥🐝

BC3 PSTF hosted a few classes for the Jimmy Ellis Training this past weekend, and during the GRIT Fire Training LLC Class, the biggest buzz on the fireground wasn’t coming from the instructors—it was coming from a bee hive that decided to move into the burn building as class started!!

Apparently, Grit fire training has quite the bee following over the years. When Grit fires up the burn building, the bees seem to think it’s the hottest new spot in town. Every time we have a BEE visit, Grit is using the burn building.

Luckily, we had our resident expert beekeeper, Instructor Scootie, on standby. The moment he realized there was a bee situation, he dashed to his truck, suited up in his bee outfit, and sprang into action to remove the Bees!

The bees were safely removed and sent on their way.

Legal Disclaimer: No Scooties or bees were harmed during the safe removal of the bees. 🐝

Apparently, even the bees know where the best fire training happens! 😂🔥🐝
