Looking for a reliable resource for home food preservation? We have a limited number of So Easy to Preserve books from the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension available at our office!

This book is a great resource for both new and experienced home food preservers, with research-based information and tested recipes for:
• Canning fruits, vegetables, meats, and other foods
• Jams, jellies, and preserves
• Pickling and fermented foods
• Freezing
• Drying and dehydrating
• And more!

It's almost time for the NC Mountain State Fair! The Fair runs from September 11th through September 20th so it's time to get those entries ready to go. For information on how to submit an entry to one of the competitions click the link to the NC State Fair website https://www.wncagcenter.org/p/mountainstatefair/exhibitors
This webpage contains a wealth of information about the Fair, the competitions, how to submit an entry and the Pony Express service.

You may drop your entries off at your local Extension Office and the Pony Express will pick them up and return them to the Extension Office by 30 September. Remember, Pony Express will only return entries that they delivered.

Please complete your online entry before 28 August. Items dropped off at the Extension Office must be securely wrapped and packed for transport and include a completed entry form.

Attached is a pick up schedule for each of the County Extension Offices with contact phone numbers. This is an excellent opportunity to share your talent with the community. Best of luck to all entrants.

Beat the Heat: With the rise in temperatures this summer, it’s important to increase your water intake. But don’t forget that you can also do that by consuming more high-water content foods. That includes:

🍉 Watermelon, strawberries, oranges, pineapples, cantaloupes, etc.
🥒 Cucumbers, cabbage, carrots, tomatoes, zucchinis, bell peppers, etc.
🧉Fruit smoothies, coconut water, homemade iced tea, etc.
