Burnsville Women of Today

Burnsville Women of Today We are a community-based volunteer organization dedicated to community service, personal growth & friendships.

As a nonprofit, volunteer organization, we participate in projects that enable us to improve our community, provide us with personal growth and allow us to build strong friendships. We are every woman...working professionals, business owners, work at home, students, mothers, single, married, native Minnesotans & transplants. We are women from many South Metro communities...Burnsville, Apple Valley, Rosemount, Lakeville and others. We chartered in 1990 and are part of the Minnesota Women of Today. We often join with our sister chapters in other communities to grow our personal networks and bring more power to our projects.

We remember … 25 years later

PATRIOT DAY AND NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE & REMEMBRANCE

Patriot Day on September 11 honors the memory of the nearly 3,000 innocent victims who died in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Each year Americans dedicate this day to remembering those who died and the first responders who risked their own lives to save others.

For many, September 11, 2001, began like any other weekday. We made our way to work. Children attended school. We shopped, had coffee, waited in line at a drive-thru. Those of us who weren't in New York City heard the first reports on the radio or television. A friend or neighbor alerted us to a plane flying into one of the Twin Towers. We felt disbelief. An accident, perhaps, a miscalculation. After we heard of all the attacks that morning, a collective fear and grief set in. And then true American resilience surfaced everywhere. People bonded and supported one another near and far because of our future uncertainty.

Every year since that fateful day, the United States comes together to remember the fallen. We remember the first responders and those who made difficult decisions.

May we remember today and everyday about the true resilience of the American spirit.

Yesterday six BWT members took a trip down to the SPAM Museum in Austin Minnesota. They learned that SPAM was invented in 1937, and quickly evolved from a Depression era budget meat into a cultural icon. Its long shelf life, affordability, and portability made it a crucial wartime ration that sustained Allied troops in WW2.

After the museum tour, it was time for more fun at Sweet Reads Books and Candy store, then out to eat at Piggy Blue's Bar-B-Que.

They topped off the day at the Austin Artworks Festival to listen to live music and look at beautiful works of art.

NATIONAL WOMEN’S EQUALITY DAY

Every year on August 26, we commemorate this right with National Women's Equality Day. The United States Congress passed the 19th Amendment to the Constitution granting women full and equal voting rights on this day in 1920.

On July 30, 1971, Rep. Bella Abzug (D-NY) presented a bill designating August 26th as Women's Equality Day.

What’s better than a summer Chapter meeting?

A summer Chapter meeting + Potluck + Our 20th Annual Bocce Ball Tourney

Thanks to MNWT State President Jeny for attending our meeting and helping us through some of our parliamentary procedures.

It was a fantastic night to share a ton of good food and fun playing bocce. And just so you know, we take our bocce seriously.😉 😆 Otherwise we wouldn’t have been doing it for 20 years.

Congratulations to Julie and Anastasia on their tourney win!

Thanks to BWT members Allison and Kathy for organizing a fabulous evening!
