Yancey County Transportation Authority Providing transportation services for the citizens of Yancey County North Carolina. Please call our office for additional information.

We offer a wide variety of transportation services to the citizens of, and general public within, Yancey County, NC. Including: shuttle services for area hiking trails and the Asheville airport, disability transportation, services to doctors appointments (in and out of County), grocery and retail stores, work, etc. Public services are generally performed at little to no cost, as we receive funding from Federal, State, and Local governments, as well as, income from contracting agencies. We operate during the hours listed, but services on Saturday and Sunday are available.

PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE

Important – While the state or federal regulations do not require a public hearing, it can be conducted if required locally.

Section 5311 (ADTAP), 5310, 5339, 5307 and applicable State funding, or combination thereof.

This is to inform the public that a public hearing will be held on the proposed Fiscal Year 2028 Community Transportation Program Application to be submitted to the North Carolina Department of Transportation no later than October 2, 2026. The public hearing will be held on September 14 at 6:00pm before the (governing board) Yancey County Board of Commissioners.

Those interested in attending the public hearing and needing either auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or a language translator should contact Michael Harris on or before September 11, 2026, at telephone number 828-682-6144 or via email at [email protected].

The Community Transportation Program provides assistance to coordinate existing transportation programs operating in Yancey County as well as provides transportation options and services for the communities within this service area. These services are currently provided using eleven demand response vehicles, four of which are lift equipped. Services are rendered by the citizens of Yancey County.
The total estimated amount requested for the period July 1, 2027 through June 30, 2028.
NOTE: Local share amount is subject to State funding availability.

The Burnsville Link is now in operation!!! The route will run from 10am - 8pm Monday - Saturday, will run on an approximate 1 hour 20 minute loop, and will include the stops of:

1 – Blue Ridge Fitness & Rehabilitation
2 – David Park Drive
3 – Taco Bell
4 – Bojangles's
5 – Municipal Parking Lot
6 – Town Square W. Main St. Entrance
7 – Town Square Nu Wray
8 – Alexandra’s Closet
9 – Tyner Construction
10 – Bank’s Jewelry
11 – Shell Station
12 – Hunter’s Run Apartments
13 – Woodland Apartments
14 – Ingles
15 – Go Grocery Parking Lot
16 – Yancey Graphics Parking Lot
17 – Sav-Mor

Each round, the van will stop for 3 minutes at the locations of stops 1, 2, 12, 13, 15, 16, and 17. A prolonged stop of 15 minutes will occur at stop 14.

This is a fare free, curb to curb service. Riders may be picked up and dropped off at route stop signs only. No reservation needed. Route brochures are available at many businesses/stops along the route.
YCTA also offers a door to door shuttle service from 9:30am - 11:45am and 1:00pm - 1:45pm Monday - Friday by reservation.
