The sagebrush biome is the largest native ecosystem in North America and one of the most at risk. Altered fire regimes, expanding juniper and invasive annual grasses have made management more difficult across Oregon and the West.

An article by David Bohnert recently published in Progressive Cattle magazine.

Over the past several decades, beef cows have quietly gotten bigger. In 1975, the average beef cow weighed just over 1,000 pounds; by 2009, that number had jumped to 1,350 pounds, and today, many herds include cows tipping the scales at 1,400 pounds or more.

Cara Goss-Bodily did awesome at the Harney County Fair in the second year of her Harney County Stockgrowers heifer project with the Heifer donated by EOARC Burns. In addition, her heifer had a great bull calf last year and her heifer (now a cow) is pregnant again. She already has a buyer for the bull calf to be used as a herd sire. We are all extremely proud of her and appreciate the opportunity to support youth and the cattle industry.
