Winter Storm Fern is projected to bring a mix of snow, sleet, and ice across the Volunteer State. Unfortunately, that might mean you lose power during the weekend storm.

If you're using a gas-powered generator at your home during the storm, remember to NEVER use a generator inside your home or in your garage. Odorless, colorless carbon monoxide (CO) is created when natural fuels used in heaters or gas-powered generators burn incompletely. The CO can be deadly.

To stay safe, all generators should only be used outdoors and at least 15 feet away from buildings.

Additionally, you should never connect generators to another power source such as power lines. The reverse flow of electricity or 'backfeed' can electrocute an unsuspecting utility worker.
