Great news if anyone is interested in helping???
Are you a fan of OCSR? Are you passionate about the preservation of logging railroad heritage? Do you want to help tell the story of logging railroads in the Pacific Northwest? Then this announcement is for YOU!
In the coming weeks OCSR will be launching a new non-profit “Friends of OCSR.” The goal of this is to create a self-sufficient supporters group with an annual meeting, regular publication, and own finances that can generate public support for our preservation efforts. The organization is already incorporated and is pursuing 501(c)(3) status.
This organization will be membership based, and lead by a team elected from its membership with the mission to support heritage railroad preservation efforts within Tillamook County, Oregon. The specific purposes of this organization will include the recruitment of volunteers for heritage rail efforts; the raising of funds for heritage railroad restoration and education projects; building community and political support for heritage railroad efforts; and supporting the efforts of Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad.
Why is this necessary? Quite simply, with OCSR’s fantastic growth in recent years the existing staff are overwhelmed with operations, maintenance, restorations, and capital projects, (you know, running a railroad) and so it was decided to spin off aspects of the operation regarding volunteer recruitment and supporter base development to a newly formed non-profit subsidiary that would be able to perform those tasks more successfully as its sole purpose.
Keep an eye on this page for more announcements regarding a Facebook group, goals for 2024, member recruitment, publication plans, and the annual meeting event.
