🔥Fire Prevention Week 2025 - October 5-11
This year's theme is "Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home"
Batteries power so many devices in our homes - phones, laptops, power tools, e-bikes, toys - but when we don't handle them properly, they can become serious fire hazards. That's why this year, we're focusing on how to Buy, Charge, and Recycle lithium-ion batteries safely to protect your home and family.
Here are some key tips:
1) Buy wisely - choose products that are listed by recognized safety labs (UL, ETL, CSA, etc.).
2) Charge with care - use the charger that came with your device, charge on a hard, nonflammable surface (not under a pillow or on a couch), and don't overcharge.
3) Recycle responsibly - don't toss batteries in the trash or normal recycling bins! Bring them to an approved recycling or e-waste center. Visit call2recycle.org to find a recycling spot near you.
Fire safety is a year-round commitment. Let’s all “Charge into Fire Safety” and make smart choices with the batteries in our homes.
