The Burlington Lead Program will be testing small household items and soil for FREE at the Love Burlington ONE World Market at the Ramble (ONE Community Center parking lot, 20 Allen St) on Saturday, July 25, 11am-3pm.

Bring any small items, like toys, collectibles, keys, dishware, cookware, utensils or even small painted furniture that you are curious about. We can even test soil from your yard or garden! 🪴

What is the Burlington Lead Program? 📝
The Burlington Lead Program is a City-supported, HUD-funded program that helps identify and address lead hazards in Burlington and Winooski homes.

Why is lead paint hazardous? ⚠️
Lead is a highly toxic metal that may cause a range of health problems, especially in young children. When lead is absorbed into the body, it can cause damage to the brain and other vital organs, like the kidneys, nerves, and blood.

Farmers Market Soil and Household Items Lead Screening 🧑‍🌾

The Burlington Lead Program, along with the USDA and UVM Master Gardeners, are holding a FREE soil screening event TODAY, 6/2 from 3-6pm at the

The Screening is for lead specifically, but can also detect other heavy metals. Just scoop about 2C of soil from garden or bare soil areas around your home and put it into a clear plastic bag and bring it to our table at the Farmers Market. We can also test other items, such as cups, plates, keys, toys, collectibles, or other items that you or your child use on a daily basis, or are just curious about! The test takes a few minutes and we will talk to you about what you can do to mitigate any hazards we find.

We want YOUR input on the development of the City of Burlington’s 2026 One-Year Action Plan for Housing & Community Development!

This is a great opportunity for folks who:
• Want their voices to be heard
• Have thoughts and/or opinions
• Really like discussions on the planning and allocation of federal funds

On Monday, May 11th, 2026, there will be a Public Hearing before the Burlington City Council to hear comments on housing and community development needs, and the draft 2026 One-Year Action Plan.

More information on the City Council meeting can be found online at www.burlingtonvt.portal.civicclerk.com.

The Action Plan is available online here or at the Community & Economic Development Office, 149 Church Street, 3rd Floor. The public is encouraged to review the Action Plan and funding recommendations, attend the Public Hearing, and comment. Written comments will also be accepted on the Action Plan through May 22nd, 2026 via email at [email protected].

The Community and Economic Development Office is pleased to announce the next Personal Care Assistant Plus Workforce Training Program, starting March 23rd, 2026.

The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) Plus Workforce Training Program combines coursework and lab skills over a 5-week period.
• The next class will run from March 23rd to April 24th, 2026.
• Classes meet in-person at TLC Homecare (1550 Williston Road, South Burlington, VT) on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 5:30-9:30pm.
• You must apply using this link: https://burlingtonvt.portal.opengov.com/categories/1123/record-types/6767 (be sure to create an Open Gov account first) and engage in a brief interview to join the class. We will contact you to schedule the online interview.
• PCA+ also offers Personal and Professional Development Training as well as Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Training.
• Successful completion leads to a $500 completion bonus.
