Since 2012, Officer Ortiz-Cruz has been a reliable, proactive, and committed member of the Burlington Township Police Department, bringing over a decade of real-world experience across multiple assignments and specialized units.
He currently serves as a Field Training Officer, Fi****ms Instructor, and Active Threat Instructor, while also contributing to the BTPD Honor Guard, Bicycle Unit, and Community Resource Bureau. His diverse experience includes prior assignments as a Task Force Officer with the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and as a Detective within BTPD. Presently, he serves as a School Resource Officer assigned to the Burlington Township School District where he plays a critical role in fostering a safe and supportive learning environment.
As an SRO, Officer Ortiz-Cruz is dedicated to student education and safety. He understands that juveniles are not immune to New Jersey law and emphasizes that proper education promotes safe decision-making, prevents violence, and builds confident future leaders. As a certified Law Enforcement Against Drugs & Violence (L.E.A.D.) instructor, he actively engages students and continues to organize middle school L.E.A.D. graduations to celebrate student success. He also serves as a head instructor for the Burlington Township Youth Academy, mentoring young residents and providing hands-on insight into the first responder profession.
Outside of his duties, Officer Ortiz-Cruz serves as President of Burlington Township Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #84, supporting charitable initiatives and community events. In his free time, he values spending quality time with his family, whether traveling or enjoying time on the golf course.
