The Burlington Police Department is proud to announce that we have once again been verified as compliant with all required standards through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). CALEA accreditation is recognized as the gold standard in public safety, ensuring that our policies, training, and operations meet nationally accepted best practices.
The Burlington Police Department received its Remote Web-Based Annual Review Report for both Law Enforcement and Public Safety Communications, confirming full compliance across all evaluated standards on April 30, 2026. This year’s Law Enforcement review included 237 standards, focus areas such as School Resource Officers, Pursuits, Property & Evidence, and All-Hazard Planning, and 8 interviews. Public Safety Communications included 41 standards reviewed and a focus on Risk Management and Call Taking Procedures, with 4 interviews conducted. Assessors noted that our policies are clear, effective, and consistently carried out through strong supervisory accountability.
“This reflects the hard work and professionalism of our entire department,” said Chief Alan Balog. “We remain committed to maintaining nationally recognized best practices as we serve the Burlington community. I am tremendously proud of the dedication our staff shows every day.”
The Burlington Police Department maintains dual accreditation and continues to undergo annual compliance reviews, with the next annual review in 2027 and 2028, followed by a full On-Site Assessment in late 2028.
