Some of our animals need homes for the summer!

As May comes to a close, we want to continue spreading awareness about Lyme Disease and the importance of protecting our pets during tick season. 🐾

With warmer weather comes increased tick activity, making prevention and early detection more important than ever. Lyme disease is a tick-borne illness that can affect dogs of all ages and activity levels, especially those spending time outdoors.

⚠️ Signs to watch for may include:
• Limping or shifting leg lameness
• Swollen or painful joints
• Fever or low energy
• Decreased appetite
• Swollen lymph nodes

🛡️ Ways to help protect your pet:
✔️ Keep your pet on year-round flea & tick prevention
✔️ Ask your veterinarian if the Lyme vaccine is right for your dog
✔️ Perform daily tick checks after walks, hikes, or outdoor play
✔️ Pay close attention to the ears, armpits, groin, and between the toes
✔️ Remove ticks carefully with fine-tipped tweezers if found

If your pet is showing symptoms or you discover an attached tick and have concerns, contact your veterinarian promptly. Early treatment can make a significant difference.

At Westford Veterinary Emergency & Referral Center, we’re here for your pets when they need us most. ❤️

⚠️ PLEASE SLOW DOWN — Wildlife Are Crossing

This orphan is a reminder of how wildlife related accidents can occur quickly and can be very dangerous to both people and animals.

Geese, goslings, turtles, and other wildlife are actively crossing roads throughout the community this time of year.

Please slow down, stay alert, and use extra caution near ponds, wetlands, and conservation areas.

If you witness an injured or orphaned animal, please contact Animal Control. 🐾
