September 11, 2001 • Twenty-Five Years Later

Today, we remember the thousands of lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the courage and sacrifice of all those affected by the attacks.

Last week, we welcomed 67 visitors taking the next step toward a new opportunity.

Every fingerprint appointment represented someone preparing for something meaningful, whether it was a clinical placement, student teaching experience, after-school program, volunteer role, professional license, new job, research opportunity, or educational requirement.

We welcomed future educators, healthcare professionals, outdoor leaders, childcare providers, mentors, counselors, students, and volunteers working to make a difference in the lives of others.

It's one of the parts of our job that we enjoy most. We get to meet people at the start of exciting new chapters and help them complete an important step in the process.

Quick fire safety tips can help you feel more confident and prepared in your dorm - use these simple guidelines to keep yourself and your peers safe:

Keep doorways, hallways, and stairwells clear. Items like bicycles should not be stored in these areas, as they can impede evacuation during emergencies.

Familiarize yourself with your evacuation route (posted in every dorm on the wall near the door).

All students must evacuate immediately whenever the fire alarm sounds. Advance notice will be given for system tests.

To minimize fire risks, be sure you don’t have any prohibited items in your dorm and never tamper with fire safety equipment. (per the UVM Housing and Dining Dorm guidelines)

Stop by the Campus Resource Fair tomorrow and meet Sergeant Nick Holden and Rachel Lacourciere from UVM Police Services. We'd love the opportunity to connect, share information about our services, and welcome students back to campus.

We will have our latest swag to share and will also be set up to help students navigate the fingerprinting appointment process, answer questions about requirements, and get signed up for an appointment if needed.

Public safety takes many forms. On August 21, UVM Police Services proudly welcomed Officer Kaylah Hildick-Smith as our department's newest police officer. During Friday's swearing-in, we also recognized two new members of our team: Carolynne Morris, Accreditation & Recruitment Specialist, and Krista Towne, Dispatcher.

From law enforcement and emergency communications to accreditation and recruitment, each plays an important role in serving the UVM community.
