Hello everyone! I am not running for Mayor. I am reactivating my public page to participate in important community conversations. A few days ago, I changed the name of this page to Carina Driscoll - Public Page. It takes a few days for Facebook to approve this change. Because I changed the profile picture and header photo to remove references to my Mayoral bid seven years ago, I may have shown up in your feed. I love this city and this state and if I do decide to run for anything again in the future, I will certainly share it here. In the meantime, I am a concerned resident, parent and business owner who may have some things to say as a public person and I will do so here.

Let me start with a genuine and hearty congratulations to Mayor Miro Weinberger on your re-election. You and your team rose to the challenge mounted against your agenda, and you worked incredibly hard. You marshaled all your resources and you won. And while a plurality, it was a solid, legitimate win. I look forward to working with you alongside the many others who remain committed to advancing the fundamentally important issues brought to the fore by this election.

All three campaigns can take credit for an over 50% increase in voter turnout since the last Mayoral election. Over 12,000 Burlingtonians cast votes and that is huge and a victory in and of itself.

Our team is spending some time looking back on the race and while there were things we could have done differently, the list mostly includes actions that would have compromised our principles. The largest shortcoming was that we weren't able to unite the left, but we know that is not something that can be done in the 12 weeks that is a Mayoral campaign. It is ongoing work that takes long-term commitment.

If we want to look forward to significant progress to advance a common agenda of putting people first, it is time for several disparate groups to come together. With candidates no longer vying for votes, that is the work we can begin today and must continue into the future.

When I entered this campaign twelve weeks ago, a community organizer with a love for this city asked me before jumping in to support the Carina for Mayor campaign, was I in it for the long haul. My answer then and now is a yes, because it is today and always has been about a love for Burlington and the people who live here.

Burlington has been energized by this election. Our challenge will be to stay energized and build on our momentum. I look forward to coalition-building, activism, and collective effort to advance the common causes of social, racial and economic justice.

I will do my part to build these coalitions and look forward to working in partnership with others with a desire to do the same.

With gratitude and hope,

Carina

Thank you, Joe Magee, our official intern, but unofficial assistant rock star to Elise. Not only did you bring style, you brought an even, steady, calm through the daily transitions of campaign life, and kept the social media messaging flowing. It’s hard to believe you were in school full-time, too.

Carina Driscoll for Mayor

This election is about bringing people together.

Through this campaign, and then as Mayor if elected, I will work to bring Burlington to again be that vibrant, forward-thinking city where we are all so proud to live. It is time to bring our actions in Burlington back into line with our community values.

Burlingtonians of all walks of life, political parties, and throughout the city yearn for the opportunity to engage the issues that impact their lives and their community. It is time to bring the people back to the table.

In this period of rapid development of our city, many community assets hang in the balance. Whether we are talking about Memorial Auditorium, the Moran Plant, our public waterfront, or other city-owned property throughout Burlington, the people have the right to determine what we do with them. The message of this campaign is clear. Burlington is not for sale. These community assets should be leveraged to achieve a vision outlined by the people in a transparent community process, not dispensed with and passed along to the highest bidder.
