Outdoor learning has huge benefits for children’s development and growth, encouraging curiosity and play while building fine motor skills and strong bodies.

This is why we are excited to announce a $100,000 strategic investment that will expand access to Outdoor Learning Environments (OLEs) for Alamance County families. This initiative, done in partnership with the Alamance Partnership for Children, reflects our shared commitment to strengthening early childhood systems in our community and building healthier futures for our youngest neighbors.

We can’t wait to see these projects come to life! Click the link below to learn more about this investment and the benefits of outdoor learning:

🌈🧪Yesterday, our team joined in on the fun at Gibsonville’s Toddler Town, a program run by the wonderful folks at Gibsonville Parks and Recreation Department where little ones get to play, learn, and explore.

To match this week’s “messy science” theme, we shared a rainbow water lab take-home activity that supports learning by encouraging kids to Explore Through Movement and Play—one of the Basics Principles. From mixing and pouring to observing what happens next, these hands-on moments help build fine motor skills, fuel imagination, and create sweet opportunities for connection.

We also loved connecting with families to share The Basics Alamance and Basics Insights—a FREE text-based tool that sends simple, fun tips each week to help support your child’s brain development through everyday moments

🎓🎉Yesterday, educators from across the Alamance-Burlington School System (ABSS) completed their final day of learning in the Teacher Leadership Academy (TLA), graduating from the two-year program.

We want to take a moment to celebrate this cohort, who’ve emerged as leaders not only in their classrooms but across their schools and throughout our community. Over the past year, they’ve deepened their understanding of Alamance County—from local industry and workforce development to community needs and ABSS priorities—connecting the dots to better support student success.

An enormous and heartfelt congratulations to all the outstanding graduates of our 6th TLA cohort! Your leadership is a valuable resource for our schools, our students, and our community.
