Yesterday, Feeding Champlain Valley celebrated our volunteers and all the work that they do across FCV with a Volunteer Appreciation Party. Volunteers are the heartbeat at all levels of service at Feeding Champlain Valley's various locations; their work packing home deliveries, gleaning at various farms across Vermont, cooking hot meals, organizing and distributing food at our food shelves, or coming into their roles with a warm smile means more food accessibility for families and individuals in Vermont.

Thank you to Samantha, for coordinating all the volunteers when it comes to scheduling and putting them into roles that fit their strengths and for putting together this wonderful celebration. Lastly, a thank you to all the volunteers across the Champlain Valley to make FCV what it is!

Feeding Champlain Valley is happy to announce our newest team member, Laurel Chen! In her role as the Food Access & Gleaning Coordinator for Franklin & Grand Isle Counties, Laurel is gleaning produce from farms and distributing food to recipients and food access sites, as well as packing and distributing online orders across the region.

Laurel’s position will be furthering Feeding Champlain Valley and Health Roots Collaborative’s reach in rural areas across northwestern Vermont where recipients may lack transportation to charitable food sites.

Welcome to the team, Laurel!

Many Vermonters are hungry. We won’t stop working to provide vegetables, fruit, and pantry staples to Vermont families in need—but we need your help to stock our shelves.
You can provide food and comfort every month by joining the Full Plates Club, a group of 202 dedicated monthly donors.
As a special thank you, all new monthly donors during the month of September for Hunger Action Month, will receive a small token of our appreciation, a Swedish Dish Cloth (a reusable, eco-friendly, super-absorbent cleaning cloth for your kitchen)!

We got our gleaning hats on for a group glean with Feeding Champlain Valley! Anna Purtel, Gleaning and Food Access Coordinator led a group from various departments at FCV to glean for rhubarb, zucchini, and kale at the Intervale Center! These gleaned items will be distributed amongst our food shelves and food hubs across Vermont as well as ending up in some of the hot meals at our Burlington kitchen.

Thank you to the Intervale Center for hosting us and continuing to bring healthy and nutritious food to everyone across the Champlain Valley.

In August, Feeding Champlain Valley, Healthy Roots Collaborative, and CVOEO had a public showing of the mural that will be going up on Healthy Roots Collaborative's Sheldon warehouse.

Corrine Yonce, the artist who is creating the mural showed guests at the Saint Albans Museum their vision of the project including sketches, references, and the local history tying the project back to the Franklin food systems that are all around Sheldon.

Thank you to all the came to support and check on the progress of the mural if you happen to pass by it next time you're in Franklin County!

It's still blueberry picking season at Feeding Champlain Valley! Peter Jenkins from Healthy Roots Collaborative had FCV members Laurel and Anna, who led a combined glean at Covered Bridge Blueberry Farm in Underhill.

We also had our final glean at Sweet Roots Farm in Charlotte with a huge group of volunteers last week. The gleaning season will continue as into the late summer and early fall and if you're interested in volunteering to glean or help at our other locations in Franklin and Grand Isle counties, contact Samantha Green at [email protected] or visit our linktree in our bio.

Food assistance programs are OUR programs, and they’re still here for us.

Right now, we’re seeing the largest participation decline in SNAP in three decades. This time last year, 5,000 more people were connected to 3SquaresVT (Vermont’s name for SNAP). Caseload decline is only good news if people no longer need help. But we know food costs remain high and economic insecurity persists.

If you or someone you know is experiencing food insecurity, refer to this summer edition sheet and share it across your community as food is a necessity for everyone.
