With no home or personal supports, *Stella came to BAHS with a need for help getting back on her feet.

With strong personal effort and encouraging guidance from BAHS, she was able to find work quickly. Unfortunately though, part-time work can only take you so far. *Stella secured a second job in order to make ends meet.

However, *Stella soon realized that she was pregnant! She set a personal goal to find housing before she gave birth. With support from BAHS combined with her strong will to succeed, *Stella saved money and secured housing before baby was born.

Incredible work, *Stella! Congratulations!

We humbly ask that you to consider giving $5 per month to support the Burlington Area Homeless Shelter. Your support helps us provide shelter services to people in Southeast Iowa who run into unexpected housing emergencies and need a place to stay while they work to get back on their feet. Residents get to stay at the shelter for free and are expected to work to save money to go towards restoring their housing. Support is not a handout but a helpful hand back up.

Help us re-stock some needed items at our two transitional housing shelters in Des Moines and Lee County! All items can be dropped off at the YMCA in Burlington during operating hours, no appointment necessary. Contact 319-359-9353 with any questions or to arrange a pickup.
