🚔 Welcome Chief Demetrie Coles! 🚔

The Town of Burkeville is pleased to announce the appointment of Demetrie Coles as Chief of Police, effective June 1, 2026. On June 1, 2026, Kathryn Spence, Clerk of Nottoway County Circuit Court, visited the Burkeville Town Office to administer the Oath of Office, officially swearing in Chief Coles as Burkeville’s new Chief of Police.

Chief Coles brings years of dedicated law enforcement experience, leadership, and a strong commitment to community service. We are excited to welcome him to this important role and look forward to his continued efforts in strengthening public safety, building community partnerships, and serving the citizens of Burkeville with integrity and professionalism.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Chief Jake Herlong for his service and leadership as Chief of Police. We are grateful that Chief Herlong will continue serving the Town of Burkeville as an Auxiliary Lieutenant, allowing the department and community to continue benefiting from his knowledge, experience, and dedication.

Please join us in welcoming Chief Coles and congratulating both Chief Coles and Auxiliary Lieutenant Herlong as they continue their service to the Town of Burkeville.
