Today at our LEGO Workshop, the kids put their building and problem solving skills to the test! They competed to build a strong bridge that could hold books and worked together to create their own LEGO cities. Each city had to include a power source, businesses, housing, transportation, and a water source. The kids had fun being creative while learning about teamwork, engineering, and what makes up a strong city!

Photography Workshop Part 1 was a success! Today, our youth photographers learned about the rule of thirds, lighting, backgrounds, and negative space to help capture beautiful photos. They practiced their new skills by taking pictures using their own devices and getting creative behind the camera! Next Thursday, June 25th, we’ll continue with Photography Part 2 where they will bring a print of their favorite photos they took and learn how they keep making their photos better!

A big thank you to Katie Keonig for sharing her photography knowledge and leading such a fun and creative workshop!

Tracking Market Lamb Gains Ahead of State Fair
As South Dakota State Fair approaches, now is the perfect time for exhibitors to closely monitor market lamb weight gains. Understanding how your lamb is gaining throughout the summer can help guide feeding decisions, improve rate of gain, and prepare exhibitors for weigh-backs and declared weights at the fair. According to SDSU Extension Sheep Field Specialist, Jaelyn Whaley and co-authors Becca Tullar and Erin McGlumphy, consistently tracking weight and average daily gain helps youth make informed management decisions and showcase their project animal successfully. Exhibitors are encouraged to weigh lambs regularly and adjust nutrition and exercise programs as needed to stay on target for fair goals. Proper planning and monitoring can help reduce stress at check-in and give exhibitors confidence heading into competition season.
