Monticello (Dog) Park Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
17 November At 3:00 PM
5243-5249 Guinea Rd., Burke, VA 22015
Hi All -
So the Park Authority has identified November 17th at
3: 00 PM as the date/time for the Monticello Park Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. Contractor work though will be completed by the end of the month, and the park will be open after that.

Dogs are welcome to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony. After all, this is for them!!!!
But of course, they must be on a leash.

Check Supervisor Cook's website https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/braddock/ for additional info regarding both the official park opening, and the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Hope to see many of you at the ribbon cutting!

Hello supporters!
I wanted to provide what I hope is one of the last updates before we have a usable off-leash dog area at Monticello Park!
Our Mastenbrook Grant application was approved and most of the funds raised to support the dog park have been transferred to the Park Authority to pay for construction. You may have noticed that development has already started. I am told a ribbon cutting is anticipated sometime in Oct/Nov of 2018!
On another note, our former Braddock District Representative to the Park Authority has recommended we disband Braddock Dogs, and we've decided to take the advice.
While we were working to raise funds for the Monticello OLDA, the group Reston Dogs, which supports Baron Cameron Park's OLDA, was sued by a neighboring community. To prevent similar risks, the Fairfax County Park Authority has reevaluated it's public-private partnerships.
The Park Authority now recommends that supporters volunteer through the County's website so that we are protected under the Park Authority's insurance as official volunteers, rather than be presented as a separate organization. This is intended to protect us from potential legal action aimed at dog park supporters.
Here's how you sign up! Visit the site below and sign up as a volunteer for FCPA. You should be able to see all of the volunteer opportunities available. When Monticello Park development is closer to completion, the Park Authority will create a listing for Monticello Park, which you can apply for. Primary concerns will most likely be monitoring waste cleanup, which was always expected to be one of the Braddock Dogs Association's primary responsibilities.

I hope that the next (last?) update will include details of the ribbon cutting at Monticello Park. In the meantime, I want to thank everyone for your continued time, energy, and financial support. This park will be a lasting legacy for our families and our dogs and I'm so glad you were willing to be part of it! I can't wait to see you at the dog park!

Sincerely,

Erin Mays
