Last Saturday, these four Highline school leaders traded a day off for a day of knocking on doors and talking with voters. 💙 Because Props 1 and 2 are vital.

The principals of Highline and Mount Rainier high schools and from North Hill and Hazel Valley elementary schools, volunteered their personal time to talk with community members about Prop. 1, the school construction bond, and Prop. 2, the technology levy. 📮

They work with Highline students and staff every day. And on their Saturday off, they chose to spend time connecting with voters about the future of our schools and rebuilding our remaining three deteriorating middle schools.

⭐️ This White Center leader was a Highline parent of Evergreen graduates and served on the school board. Now she is asking Highline to come together for the sake of students and invest in their future by rebuilding our middle schools and approving the technology levy.

✂ Did you know Highline Public Schools cut $8 million from its operating budget this school year and projects the need to cut $5 million in 2027-28 (and that is IF the tech levy passes, otherwise further cuts will have to be made).

🌊 Keep calm and vote YES for education by Nov. 3. It's a good plan, and the right thing to do.

Fred Swanson, Highline parent and executive director of the Highline Schools Foundation, reminds us that our school buildings do more than provide a place to learn. They show students how much we value them and their futures.

Every Highline student deserves a safe, healthy school where they can learn, dream and prepare for what comes next.

⭐️ LETTER TO THE EDITOR, written by Capital Facilities Advisory Committee (CFAC) members: "When voters consider Highline Public Schools’ construction bond this November, I hope they understand something important about how it came to be: This is a plan developed by members of our community, not simply a proposal handed down by the school district...." 💙

"...Over the past two years, CFAC has worked to develop the next phase of Highline’s long-term school construction plan. We spent time understanding the conditions and needs of schools across the district, weighing priorities, evaluating options, and considering the long-term financial implications of our decisions...."

"We know that asking our community to support a school bond is significant. These are real financial commitments for families and property owners. That is precisely why the community’s involvement in developing this proposal matters...."

"One of the clearest lessons from our work is that delaying necessary construction makes it more expensive. Buildings continue to deteriorate, maintenance needs increase, and construction costs rise over time. Waiting means asking future taxpayers to pay more for the same improvements, while another generation of students attends schools that need replacement...."

"We did not arrive at this recommendation casually, and we did not all begin with the same priorities. We asked questions, challenged assumptions, and made compromises.

“No for Now” just means “NO” to the students who are sitting in outdated classrooms today. Our kids need safe, modern schools now.... 🏫
..There is no “better plan.” There will be a more expensive plan if we kick the can down the road while construction costs escalate. This is not good stewardship of tax dollars. Join me in voting YES for Highline students. Vote YES on Prop. 1 and Prop. 2.

"Schools in Highline look like many of the schools in south Seattle. 🏫 The pandemic widened an existing achievement gap in our schools, and it has only grown worse. This levy is one local means of providing resources so that our kids get the education they deserve. I'll continue fighting at the state level to fully fund education." 🏛️

• On Highline ballots, the technology levy would continue funding for student and staff technology, cybersecurity, internet access, technology infrastructure, and districtwide systems that support teaching and learning.

• The state does not fund technology, which is part of daily operations in a school district, like in other organizations.

• Technology supports teachers. It does not replace teachers.The vast majority of classroom time is spent in direct, teacher-led instruction. Instructional software can help teachers identify where individual students need additional support.
