The Jefferson Township VFD would like to thank the WCDPS - Washington County Department of Public Safety for sending personnel and apparatus to teach our annual Hazardous Materials Operations refresher course.

Each year, firefighters must attend a course to update knowledge and practice skills relative to hazardous materials emergencies.

❄️ Winter Weather Advisory – Jefferson Township ❄️

Winter weather is expected in our area throughout the weekend, which could mean slick roads and reduced visibility. Please take it slow if you’re out driving, especially early in the morning and later in the evening.

Stay safe and stay warm!

A Winter Storm Watch was issued for areas along and south of I-70 for Saturday afternoon into Sunday with the heaviest snow expected (along with the highest chance of seeing >6"). Fluctuations in the storm track may continue to occur so continue to follow the latest forecast information at weather.gov/pbz/winter to understand potential impacts for your area.

..WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM SATURDAY TO 1 PM EST SUNDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 5 and 8 inches.

* WHERE...Portions of east central Ohio, southwest and western Pennsylvania, and northern and the northern panhandle of West Virginia.

* WHEN...From 1 PM Saturday to 1 PM EST Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Travel could be very difficult.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Localized higher amounts could occur in snow bands.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Persons are urged to stay indoors until conditions improve. If you must go outside, dress in layers. Several layers of clothes will keep you warmer than a single heavy coat. Cover exposed skin to reduce your risk of frostbite or hypothermia. Gloves, a scarf, and a hat will keep you from losing your body heat.

Persons should delay all travel if possible. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility. Leave plenty of room between you and the motorist ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach your destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially cautious on hills or when making turns. Make sure your car is winterized and in good working order.
