Enjoyed today's Burgaw Area Chamber of Commerce Power Lunch where we heard from Cliff Pyron from Wilmington Business Development (WBD), an economic development organization serving the greater Wilmington region, including PenderCounty. Its mission is to recruit big business and industry, support expansion of existing industries, and promote regional economic growth.

How are we going to fund a new school if we are struggling to adequately fund and support the schools, staff, and facilities we already have around the county?

Our teachers, administrators, and school employees work hard every day to provide the best education and setting possible for our students. Many of our existing schools have ongoing needs, and staff deserve the resources, support, and compensation necessary to be successful.

Emotions ran high in Pender County Tuesday as school administrators and principals pleaded with the Board of Education over proposed budget cuts that could significantly impact classrooms across the district. Read more details below.

Happy Father's Day to all!

I am grateful for the many fathers throughout who work hard every day, volunteer their time, coach our youth, support local organizations, and invest in the lives of those around them.

A special thank you to the fathers who are serving our country, working today to keep our communities running, and those who are spending this as their first Father's Day or remembering loved ones no longer with us.

Wishing all fathers a blessed, joyful, and well-deserved Father's Day.
