NC Cooperative Extension - Pender County Empowering People, Providing Solutions We provide research-based education to citizens from 5 yrs of age to 125 yrs of age.

Pender County Cooperative Extension is a partnership between Pender County government, NC State University and NC A&T State University (land grant universities) and the federal government. Our expertise in Pender County currently consists of Extension agents working in the following areas:

4-H Youth Development
Urban and Consumer Horticulture
Commercial Horticulture - fruit and vegetable producti

on and marketing and food safety
Field Crop Production
Family & Consumer Science - vacant
Livestock

We conduct education workshops and events in these program areas, around Pender County and at times throughout North Carolina. Combined our staff of five has served North Carolina residents for more than forty years.

Do you have a high school student curious about plants, gardens, and the science behind growing things? The Horticultural Science Summer Institute (HSSI) at NC State University is a one-week, residential, hands-on pre-college program designed to open the door to exciting careers in horticulture and plant sciences. Participants dive into interactive workshops, from plant breeding and propagation to sustainable production and design; visit innovative farms, gardens, and greenhouses, and explore college pathways while building leadership skills and lifelong connections. Whether you’re dreaming of discovering new genes, grafting tomatoes, or figuring out how to make flowers last longer, HSSI helps youth grow a passion into possibilities!
