This morning, Flagler County Property Appraiser James “Jay” Gardner, Jr. had the opportunity to speak with members of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) about the property tax exemptions and benefits available to Florida veterans. 🇺🇸
Florida provides several important property tax benefits for qualifying veterans and their families, including:
🇺🇸$5,000 Disabled Veteran Exemption – Available to qualifying veterans with a 10% or greater service-connected disability.
🇺🇸Total & Permanent Service-Connected Disability Exemption – Qualifying veterans who are totally and permanently disabled due to a service-connected disability may receive a total exemption from property taxes on their homestead property.
🇺🇸Combat-Related Disability Discount for Veterans 65+ – Qualifying veterans age 65 or older with a combat-related disability may receive a property tax discount based on their percentage of disability.
🇺🇸Wheelchair-Bound Disabled Veteran Exemption – Certain qualifying disabled veterans who must use a wheelchair for mobility may qualify for an exemption on their homestead property.
🇺🇸Surviving Spouse Benefits – Certain veteran exemptions and discounts may continue or transfer to a qualifying surviving spouse.
🇺🇸Deployed Service Member Exemption – Qualifying active-duty service members deployed during the preceding calendar year may be eligible for an additional homestead exemption.
We are always grateful for the opportunity to meet with our veterans and help ensure they are aware of the property tax benefits available to them.
Thank you to the DAV for having us this morning, and most importantly, thank you to our veterans for your service and sacrifice. 🇺🇸
