All Miami County emergency services remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of our students, staff, and visitors. As part of our ongoing efforts to maintain a safe learning environment, an Active Shooter Response Training Exercise will be conducted at Maconaquah Middle School. On that date, the presence of emergency responders is not an indication that there is a public threat. If, on that date, there is a threat to the public, local emergency agencies will notify the public via social media and through local radio stations.

Purpose of the Exercise:
This training is designed to prepare both our school communities and emergency response agencies for critical situations by practicing effective response strategies. It is a proactive measure to strengthen safety protocols and ensure that everyone knows what to do in the unlikely event of an active shooter incident.

Key Details:
• This will be a scenario-based exercise involving all county emergency-response professionals.
• No live ammunition or dangerous materials will be used during the training.
• Emergency vehicles and personnel will be present around the school during the exercise. Please remember this is only a drill.

Public Notice:
We kindly ask the public not to stop by the training site to allow emergency personnel the space they need to conduct this important exercise.

For questions or additional information, please contact:
• Miami County Sheriff's Department
• Miami County Emergency Management Agency (EMA)

Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us keep our schools and community safe.

Maconaquah 8th graders wrapped up the school year with their annual STEM project, “Storm the Fort,” now in its fifth year. Students helped build a full-size French and Indian War fort and Native American village while learning hands-on 18th-century skills such as blacksmithing, carpentry, basket weaving, colonial cooking, calligraphy, and more.
The project ended with two student favorites — firing the candy cannon and “storming the fort” during a sq**rt gun battle. More importantly, students gained new skills, teamwork experiences, and lasting memories.
A special thank you to the many volunteers, along with Miami-Cass REMC and The Society of Indiana Pioneers, for supporting this incredible experience for our Maconaquah students.

At the middle school Mrs. Christopher’s Biology classes hopped into hands-on learning last week with a frog dissection lab! Students explored anatomy up close and discovered how each body system works together. Some students loved the experience, while others were a little squeamish, but everyone came away learning something new. A few students even tried kissing their frogs… unfortunately, no princes or princesses appeared!

Congratulations to our Braves of the Week! These students have been recognized for consistently working hard, showing kindness and respect to others, and setting a great example of what it means to be a Brave each day. We are proud of the positive attitudes, strong character, and leadership they demonstrate in our classrooms and throughout the school. Keep up the great work and continue to shine!

Last week some of our fourth graders had the opportunity to work with Purdue professors on a Zoom call through the Catalyst program. Students had to design a sellable way for students to have some sort of light of wearable. They then worked on programming a little in the afternoon.

The 4th graders have been studying Indiana. One of the ways we celebrate our state is with the MAC 500. Each class builds a car and we race in the gym. We had some generous sponsors this year. They were: East End Double Dip in Peru, Just Baked by Trisha in Peru, The Spa of Kokomo, Paul Richard’s GMC in Peru, LLC Excavating, and Fruth and Osborn Show Pigs. Mrs.Warnock’s Pig shaped car came out in the lead.
