Yesterday, local news agencies joined us at Grissom Air Reserve Base to witness the 434th Air Refueling Wing in action!

Representatives from the Pharos-Tribune, Indianapolis Star, Fox 59 and WLFI News 18, climbed aboard a KC-135R Stratotanker for a close-up look at a mid-air refueling mission with the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds as they headed to their next performance in Columbus, Ohio.

Before takeoff, the journalists caught up with the aircrew and Maj. Joni Friar, director of the upcoming Grissom Air & Space Expo, for a preview of what’s to come.

We found some Thunderbirds ahead of yesterday's thunderstorm!

While our KC-135 fueled up the jets, we got to witness the skill and precision these pilots possess with each calculated movement.

If you think THIS is cool, wait until you see the Grissom Air & Space Expo, where these birds will really take flight and display their incredible aerial acrobatics!

🚁 Training for the worst day so Airmen can make it home.

Airmen from the 434th Air Refueling Wing's Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) program recently teamed up with the 54th Helicopter Squadron "Rough Riders" from Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, for a combat search and rescue training exercise at Grissom Air Reserve Base.

The training focused on personnel recovery skills, teaching helicopter crews how to identify visual signals from isolated personnel and helping SERE specialists refine the techniques used to guide rescue assets to Airmen in need.

Whether it's a signal mirror, ground-to-air markings or other emergency signaling methods, these skills can make the difference between remaining isolated and returning safely home.

Exercises like this strengthen partnerships between active-duty and reserve units while ensuring Airmen are ready to respond when the mission demands it.

Meet our newest Heartland Warriors: The 434th Force Support Squadron's Military Personnel Flight.

Behind every mission-ready service member is a dedicated team ensuring they and their families are taken care of. Driven by a commitment to excellence, the MPF is the well-oiled machine that drives morale, readiness, and retention for our Wing.

This past year, the MPF has been working tirelessly behind the scenes to achieve impactful results for Team Grissom:
✅ Managed 304 reenlistments, 166 promotions, and issued over 2,000 ID cards.
✅ Processed 1,285 evaluations and 400+ awards to recognize our top talent.
✅ Ensured seamless transitions with over 390 in/out-processing and separation actions, and 150 gains.
✅ Supported critical readiness exercises including COPE NORTH, Hoosier Dawn, and Patriot Medic.

Thank you, MPF, for your unwavering dedication and commitment to the Hoosier Wing and its Airmen.

Team Grissom recently welcomed 85 students from Northwestern Middle School for a behind-the-scenes look at our mission.

The students learned about our global air refueling capabilities with a tour of a KC-135R Stratotanker and visited the Aircrew Flight Equipment shop to see the life-saving gear our aircrews rely on.

Who knows? We may have met some future Hoosier Wing Airmen!
