Wanted to provide a brief update on David. They were able to remove the ventilator today and he is communicating by moving his hands and eyes. Thank you to everyone who is praying for him. Continue to keep Captain Hesselmeyer, his wife, kids, family and care team in your prayers. He still has a long road ahead, but he is going to get there.

🎉 Congratulations, Ryan Dawson! 👏🚒

Buies Creek Fire & Rescue would like to congratulate our part-time Firefighter/EMT, Ryan Dawson, on being selected as the new Harnett County Emergency Services Director, beginning in October 2026!

Ryan has been a dedicated member of our department, and we are incredibly proud to see him take on this new leadership role within Harnett County. His years of experience in law enforcement, emergency management, and the fire service have prepared him well for this opportunity.

We know Ryan will continue to serve Harnett County with the same dedication, leadership, and commitment to our community that he has shown here at Buies Creek.

📣 [Harnett County News]: Harnett County is excited to announce that Ryan Dawson has been selected as the new Emergency Services Director, officially beginning in October 2026, following the retirement of current director Lawrence Smith, who has been with the County over 20 years.

Dawson began with Harnett County in 2023, as the Assistant Emergency Management Coordinator and was promoted to Emergency Management Coordinator in April 2026. In addition to his work with the County, he also serves as a firefighter/EMT with Buies Creek Fire & Rescue. Prior to joining Harnett County, Dawson served 20 years with Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office and has been involved in the volunteer fire service since 1996. His extensive law enforcement background combined with his emergency services background, provides a strong foundation for his new role.

🚒 PROUD MOMENT FOR BCFD! 🚒

This past week (June 22–26), three of our own junior and former junior firefighters traveled to A-B Tech in Asheville to participate in the prestigious NC High School Firefighter Challenge, hosted by the NC Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM).

Our young men joined 36 other dedicated youth from across North Carolina for five days of intense, rigorous training. They pushed their limits and sharpened their skills in:

🡒 Basic PPE & Fire Behavior

🡒 Ground Ladders & Ventilation

🡒 Hoseline Advancement

🡒 Firefighter RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) Scenarios

🡒 Window/Ladder Bailouts & Vehicle Extrication

Beyond the hands-on training, they had the incredible opportunity to network with high school programs, junior firefighter programs, and fire chiefs from all over the state.

We are incredibly proud to see BCFD firefighters Ashton Dawson and Cayden Sorrell passing the torch to Junior Firefighter Donald Knight to keep the momentum and motivation strong in our junior program!🔥

We want to extend a massive thank you to NC OSFM for putting this phenomenal program together and providing top-tier training for the next generation of the fire service.

🚒 Community Notice: Live-Burn Training Exercise 🚒

Today, the Buies Creek Fire Department will be conducting a live-burn training evolution at the McKay House on the campus of Campbell University.

Dr. McKoy Road will be closed throughout the evening to ensure the safety of participants and the public.

Residents and visitors may notice smoke in the area during the exercise. This is part of a controlled training event, and there is no cause for alarm.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as our firefighters participate in this important training opportunity to enhance their skills and preparedness for serving our community.

Important information regarding the burn ban ⬇️

BURN BAN LIFTED FOR HARNETT COUNTY

The Harnett County Fire Marshal and the N.C. Forest Service have lifted the ban on all open burning for Harnett County effective 8 a.m. on Sunday, May 3.

This applies to fires within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling (under jurisdiction of fire marshal) and those beyond 100 feet (under jurisdiction of NC Forest Service).

This weekend, members of the Buies Creek Fire Department had the opportunity to train at FTCC Fire, Rescue and Swift Water Training during our second quarter live burn exercise 🔥

Working alongside our partners from Lillington Fire Department and Angier & Black River Fire Department, our crews sharpened critical firefighting skills in a controlled, realistic environment. These hands-on trainings are essential in preparing our firefighters to respond effectively and safely when our community needs us most.

We’re proud of the dedication our members continue to show and grateful for the opportunity to train with such strong neighboring departments. 🚒
