UPDATE – Missing Person Notification

Regarding the missing person notification issued this evening, September 3, 2026, at approximately 2300 hours:

The individual has been located and is safe.

The Buhl Police Department would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the outstanding community of Buhl for your quick response, assistance, and willingness to help locate this individual. The numerous phone calls and pieces of information provided to our dispatch center undoubtedly played a critical role in helping us locate the individual and may have helped save a life this evening.

The information shared by community members helped officers and deputies narrow the search area and ultimately locate the individual. Your attentiveness, cooperation, and willingness to act when it mattered most made a significant difference.

The Buhl Police Department would also like to thank the Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office and South Idaho Regional Communications (SIRCOMM) Dispatch for their valuable assistance and support throughout this incident.

Thank you, Buhl, for once again demonstrating the strength of our community.

OFFICE CLOSURE NOTICE

The Buhl Police Department office will be closed Monday, September 7, 2026, in observance of Labor Day.

Labor Day is a time to recognize the hard work, dedication, and contributions of the men and women who help keep our communities and country moving forward.

We hope everyone enjoys a safe and fun weekend with family and friends. Fire up the grill, enjoy some time off, and make a few good memories — just try not to make any that require a police report.

If you are traveling, please buckle up, slow down, and drive safely. If alcohol is part of your plans, designate a sober driver or arrange another safe ride home. Don’t drink and drive — our patrol officers would much rather wave at you than meet you during a traffic stop.

Patrol officers will remain on duty throughout the holiday weekend. If you have an emergency, call 911. For non-emergency law enforcement assistance, please contact dispatch.

Our office will reopen for regular business hours on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

Shooting Investigation Update

The Buhl Police Department is providing an update regarding the shooting investigation that occurred during the early morning hours of August 28, 2026, in the area of Maple Street and 14th Avenue North.

As a result of the investigation, a suspect has been identified and taken into custody.

At this time, the Buhl Police Department continues to believe this was an isolated incident and there is no known ongoing threat to the public.

The investigation remains active, and additional information will be released when appropriate and when doing so will not compromise the investigation.

The Buhl Police Department would like to thank the community for its cooperation and assistance during this investigation.

August 28, 2026

Shooting Investigation

At approximately 12:00 a.m. on August 28, 2026, the Buhl Police Department received a report of a white Ford Mustang repeatedly circling the area of Maple Street and 14th Avenue North. The reporting party advised that the vehicle had left the area prior to officers being notified.

At approximately 6:15 a.m., the reporting party contacted the Police Department again after discovering what appeared to be bullet holes in their vehicle.

The Buhl Police Department is actively investigating this incident. Based on the information currently available, investigators believe this was an isolated incident, and there is no known ongoing threat to the general public at this time.

Anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area of Maple Street and 14th Avenue North during the early morning hours of August 28, or who may have surveillance or doorbell camera footage showing a white Ford Mustang in the area, is encouraged to contact the Buhl Police Department.

This investigation remains ongoing. The Buhl Police Department will provide additional information as it becomes available and can be released without compromising the investigation.

School is back in session and we are wishing the kids and teachers a wonderful, fun filled school year.

We also want to take the opportunity to remind everyone of the speed limits in the school zones.

Just know that if you get pulled over in the school zone for speeding, running a stop sign, or not stopping for people crossing the street, you're probably going to get a ticket. Here is your warning.

Please be mindful and extra cautious in the school zones.

Our Hearts Are With Twin Falls

The Buhl Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the victims, families, friends, and everyone affected by yesterday’s tragic shooting in Twin Falls.

The loss of life in this incident is heartbreaking. Our thoughts are with those grieving the loss of loved ones, those who were injured, the employees and witnesses who experienced this tragedy, and the entire Twin Falls community as they begin to process what happened.

We also want to recognize the incredible response of the law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, emergency room and medical staff, dispatchers, and all other first responders who answered the call.

When others were running from danger, first responders were moving toward it. Dispatchers were behind the radio coordinating an incredibly difficult and chaotic response. EMS and medical personnel were working to save lives. Law enforcement officers were responding to an active and uncertain threat. Their courage, professionalism, and dedication deserve our deepest respect and gratitude.

Incidents like this affect more than one city. Twin Falls is our neighbor, and many of the first responders who answered yesterday are people we work beside, train with, and rely upon throughout the Magic Valley.

To the Twin Falls community: you are not alone.

From all of us at the Buhl Police Department, our hearts are with the victims and their families, and we stand beside our brothers and sisters in public safety who responded yesterday.

🚨 CELL PHONE + DARK TINT = AN EXPENSIVE COMBINATION 🚨

The Buhl Police Department has noticed an increase lately in drivers using cell phones behind the wheel—and some are apparently trying to hide behind a fully tinted front windshield while doing it.

Unfortunately, illegal tint does not make illegal cell phone use invisible. It just gives officers two things to discuss with you.

📱 PUT THE PHONE DOWN

Idaho is a hands-free state. Holding or supporting a cell phone while operating a vehicle is illegal, including while temporarily stopped at a red light or stop sign.

The current costs are:

📱 First offense: $131.50
📱 Second offense within three years: $206.50
📱 Third offense within three years: $356.60

That is a lot of money just to send “K.”

Your text can wait.
The TikTok can wait.
The Snapchat can wait.
Your bank account would probably appreciate it.

And remember—red and blue lights are not the notification you were waiting for.

😎 NOW, ABOUT THAT WINDSHIELD TINT…

We have also noticed an increase in vehicles with the entire front windshield tinted.

A friendly reminder: your windshield should not look like the loading screen of a video game.

Under Idaho law, tint on the front windshield may generally only extend down to the manufacturer’s AS-1 line, or no more than six inches from the top if there is no AS-1 marking. Tinting the entire front windshield is illegal unless the driver qualifies for a lawful medical exception.

Illegal windshield tint may cost you:

💸 $67.00 for the citation
💸 The cost of removing the tint
💸 The heartbreak of watching your “cool new look” get peeled off and thrown away

Remember:

📱 Your phone belongs in a holder—not in your hand.
😎 Sunglasses are cheaper than illegal windshield tint.
🚓 Illegal tint will not hide you from a traffic stop.
💸 A cell phone citation and illegal tint can turn one drive into a very expensive outing.

Put the phone down, keep the windshield clear, and keep your money in your wallet.

🇺🇸🎆 Buhl Is Getting Ready for the Fourth of July! 🎆🇺🇸
The Fourth of July is almost here, and the Buhl Police Department would like to remind everyone to celebrate safely, responsibly, and in a way that allows you to finish the weekend with the same number of fingers you started with.
The Buhl Fire Department is always ready to help—but they would much rather wave at you during the parade than meet you in your backyard because your fireworks display relocated itself to the neighbor’s roof.
Before lighting the fuse, please remember:
🔥 Keep a bucket of water, garden hose, or fire extinguisher nearby.
👨‍👩‍👧 Closely supervise children around fireworks. Sparklers are still hot enough to cause serious burns.
🐶 Secure your pets. They did not agree to participate in your neighborhood reenactment of the Battle of Bunker Hill.
🌾 Stay away from dry grass, buildings, vehicles, and anything else you would prefer not to explain to the fire chief.
🍺 Alcohol and fireworks are a terrible combination. So are alcohol and driving. Please have a sober adult handle both the fireworks and the transportation.
🧹 Clean up the debris afterward. The street is not a fireworks museum, and your neighbors are not the cleanup crew.
Know the Code Before You Light the Fuse
Under Buhl City Code 2-4-2, fireworks within the city are limited to safe and sane fireworks, unless otherwise authorized.
Under Buhl City Code 2-4-5, safe and sane fireworks may be discharged within city limits beginning at midnight on June 23 through midnight on July 5. Dangerous fireworks are prohibited unless the required permit has been obtained.
A simple rule of thumb: if it launches into the sky, explodes overhead, shakes the windows, causes the dog to leave the state, or makes your neighbor call both the police and fire departments—it probably does not belong in your driveway.
The Buhl Police Department and Buhl Fire Department would both prefer to spend the holiday enjoying the celebration—not determining whose shrubbery is currently on fire.
🇺🇸 Celebrate responsibly, respect your neighbors, protect your pets, and keep the fireworks safe and sane.

4th of July- Sagebrush days will be here before you know it. This years entry into town will be more difficult because of the roadway construction projects. Please plan on getting here before 9am. After 9am we will be shutting down roads and denying entry into town from a majority of the access roads. As you can see from the attached map several normally traveled roads will be closed. This map is different from other years entry points into the City. These changes were required by ITD because of the construction projects.

SO PLEASE PLAN AHEAD AND BE HERE EARLY ON THE 4TH OF JULY TO ENJOY THE FESTIVITES. IF YOU ATTEMPT TO ENTER AFTER 9AM YOU HAVE A STRONG LIKELYHOOD YOU WILL BE TURNED AROUND

We would also ask that all business' and residents who typically park their vehicles on Broadway Avenue to please have their vehicles moved prior to 9:00 AM. If they are not moved by that time they may be towed at the owners expense.

Some kind folks in Buhl had a bicycle left in there front yard. Its a mountain bike and pretty beat up. If you have a missing bike ( or one of the kids forgot where they put there bike) shoot us a call, describe it and we shall return it to you.
