It turned out to be a windy but beautiful day for Field Day activities at some of our elementary schools!

At Hoover Elementary School, students enjoyed a Superhero themed day with outdoor games, an inflatable obstacle course in the gym, martial arts in the community room, a silent disco in the FitLab, an assembly, and a hot dog lunch cooked by Principal Mike Huff!

At Ben Franklin Elementary School, students enjoyed a silent disco in the library, inflatables in the gym, outdoor games, a mask-making activity in the art room, a petting zoo in the community room, an assembly and more!

This morning, Holmes Elementary School welcomed students and the special men in their lives for Donuts with Dad! It was great to see so many kids (and even Principal McCarthy) with their dads/father figures celebrating ahead of Father's Day.

On Tuesday, the Hoover Elementary School community gathered outside kindergarten teacher Samantha Page's classroom to celebrate the completion of a beautiful memorial honoring the life of Carmella Rose Lopez. Members of Carmella's family along with friends, classmates, Hoover staff, and district administrators joined together for a ceremonial ribbon-cutting to mark the project's completion. Carmella tragically passed away two years ago and Mrs. Page spearheaded the memorial as a way to celebrate her life and the lasting impact she had on so many.

The memorial consists of a beautiful bench and potted perennials and is located in a grassy area next to the playground which is right outside the classroom Carmella attended. It is a wonderful tribute to Carmella and the joy she brought to all those around her. This wouldn't have been possible without the help of the Erie 1 BOCES Welding Program at the Kenton Career & Technical Education Center. The bench was fabricated by Welding Teacher Frank Rosiek and students Owen Ford, Caden Lovern and Hannah McMahon with Kenton Principal John Wodjeski providing funding for the materials.

Last evening, the Ken-Ton Athletics Department held their annual senior awards night, honoring seniors from across the district for their accomplishments on the playing field. Congratulations to everyone who won awards!

A big part of the evening was the Senior Signing Ceremony where Kenmore East High School and Kenmore West High School student-athletes solidified their post-secondary plans. Congratulations to the many Bulldogs and Blue Devils who will be continuing their athletic careers in college! A full list of athletes and their plans can be found here: https://www.ktufsd.org/all-news/default-board-post-page/~board/0-homepage-school-district-news/post/23-student-athletes-sign-letters-of-intent

Additionally, the first ever Crosstown Cup was presented - a trophy that will go to the school that wins the most head-to-head contests in all sports across the school year. Congratulations to Kenmore West for winning this year's trophy!

To celebrate America’s 250th birthday, Team 5-5 students at Herbert Hoover Middle School held a special living wax museum! Over the last few weeks, students researched a famous person that played an important role of the founding of the United States. They then prepared a presentation and spent time in the library on Wednesday informing their classmates and other students about their chosen historical figure - including their background and major life events. A special part of the project included teaming up with Mr. Dave Rogalski and Mr. Phil Jarosz, who helped students design their own wooden medallion using a laser engraver that were then attached to their posters!
