Yesterday, I took the Senate floor with a simple message: If billion-dollar companies want to profit from our communities, they need to answer to our communities.

The Responsible Data Center Development Act passed the Senate, but this fight is far from over. New Yorkers deserve answers before permits. Before subsidies. Before the power gets switched on.

And I'm not backing down.

Thank you to for your leadership on this issue and your commitment to putting communities first.

🔴 LIVE NOW: I’m on the Senate floor as we debate legislation that would establish a moratorium on new data center development in New York.

This is an important conversation about our future — ensuring New Yorkers get a fair deal.

Watch the debate live.

I have exciting news!

Today, the Senate passed my Vacant Rental Improvement Program. Too many New Yorkers are struggling to find housing while too many apartments sit vacant. This bill helps bring those units back into use, create more housing opportunities, and strengthen communities across our state.

Now let's get it across the finish line.

The proposed Tonawanda data center is on hold. Today, I released the following statement:

“The proposed data center in Tonawanda is on hold because we demanded transparency and would not let it proceed without answers. Communities deserve that information before projects get approvals, not after. This is a victory for our community.

The questions in Tonawanda are the same questions communities across New York are asking about energy demand, environmental protections, water usage, and costs to ratepayers. If developers say they have the answers, show us, and put it in writing.

That's why I support the Responsible Data Center Act and the Stop Subsidizing Data Centers Act. This isn't about being anti-technology or anti-development. It's about making sure New Yorkers get a fair deal. This is just the first step in the fight for all of New York, and we're not backing down.”

One of the concerns I hear most often from residents is simple: keeping the lights on and keeping utility bills affordable.

That's why this year's State Budget includes reforms to increase utility accountability, return more excess profits to ratepayers, provide energy rebates to millions of New Yorkers, and strengthen oversight of future rate increases.

This is a start, not the finish line. I'll continue fighting to protect ratepayers, increase transparency, and make sure working families aren't left paying the price for decisions made behind closed doors.

Today, my staff had the privilege of attending the Pride flag raising at City Hall in recognition of Pride Month.

Pride is a celebration of identity, resilience, and the ongoing work to ensure equality, respect, and dignity for all. Buffalo is strongest when everyone is free to live openly and authentically, this month and every month.

Today, a member of my staff joined Congressman Tim Kennedy, other elected officials, and community leaders for the announcement of the DHS Release Transparency Act.

The tragic and preventable death of Mr. Alam underscores exactly why this commonsense legislation is needed, to ensure families and designated contacts are notified before an individual is released from DHS custody.

Thank you to Congressman Kennedy for his leadership on this important effort. I’m proud to support it.

A proposed $2 billion AI data center could be built in Tonawanda, right in the community I represent. Residents deserve answers before projects of this scale move forward.

That's why I'm supporting legislation to pause new data centers across New York while we examine their impacts on our energy grid, infrastructure, environment, and ratepayers.

The work isn't over. We're continuing to work with our partners in the Assembly to move this effort forward and ensure communities have a voice in the process.

Let's get this right.

Happy Pride Month.

This month, we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, honor those who paved the way, and recognize the countless contributions LGBTQ+ individuals make to our neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, and communities every day. Pride is about being seen, valued, and free to live authentically.

Proud to stand with the LGBTQ+ community this month and every month.
