Labor Day is a reminder that the rights and protections workers have today were fought for and won by generations of working people.

I’m proud to stand with the men and women of organized labor across Western New York and to keep fighting for good jobs, fair wages and safe workplaces. Wishing everyone a safe and happy Labor Day.

The Town of Amherst is proud to partner with Erie County Veteran Services to host a community outreach event for Amherst veterans and their families.

Veterans and their families are invited to stop by Town Hall this Tuesday, September 8th from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM to learn about available resources, ask questions, and connect with support services.

This is a great opportunity to access benefits, receive guidance, and learn more about programs available to those who have served. We look forward to welcoming and supporting our veteran community.

Statement from Senator Jeremy Zellner on last night’s severe storms and flash flooding:

“Last night’s severe storms and flash flooding caused significant damage across Western New York, including in communities I represent. I have been in touch with our local and state partners throughout the morning to get a clear picture of the damage and determine what resources may be available for residents and businesses impacted by the flooding.

“I want to thank our first responders, emergency management teams and highway crews who worked through the night to keep people safe. Many of our neighbors are dealing with flooded streets, homes and businesses. My office and I will continue working with our partners at every level to make sure our communities have the support they need as they clean up and recover.”

FLASH FLOODING: Several roads were closed late Thursday night and remain blocked Friday morning due to flash flooding in Buffalo.

The City of Buffalo, along with the National Weather Service, issued alerts warning drivers of flash flooding that stretched from Grand Island into Tonawanda, Amherst, and Cheektowaga.

Friday morning, Town of Tonawanda police told WKBW that River Road is still closed from Grand Island Blvd to Sawyer Ave in Tonawanda because of flooding.

Social Security should be there when you retire. It’s that simple.

Today, my staff joined Timothy Kennedy and community leaders to support the Social Security 2100 Act, which would help protect Social Security from future cuts and strengthen benefits for seniors. The bill would require the highest earners to pay more into the system, improve cost-of-living increases and help ensure Social Security is there for generations to come.

Thank you to Congressman Kennedy for continuing to fight to protect the benefits people have earned.
