Over the weekend, five firefighters from Ellicott Creek took part in the annual Getzville Rapid Intervention Training (GRIT). This intensive two day program centers on FAST/RIT techniques, pushing participants through demanding, hands-on scenarios designed to test both physical endurance and mental toughness. The training is built around real life line of duty incidents to reinforce critical rescue skills.

We’d like to recognize and thank the members who dedicated their time to this training: Captain Bill Kuss, Lieutenant Alicia May, and Firefighters Chris Fitch, Bryan Tadlock, and Collin Kemp. Their willingness to spend a weekend away from family and work to further their skills speaks volumes about their commitment—not only to the department, but to the safety of the community we serve.

Today we bid our Rescue 5 a farewell as it has left Station 1 for its final time. This apparatus has served us well for the past 23 years. It is on its way to Bloxom Virginia to serve the Bloxom Volunteer Fire Co for many years to come. This sale is ahead of a new Squad (Rescue Pumper) that is currently on order with an anticipated delivery of early 2027.
