Today, my sponsored bill, the Biometrics Transparency and Privacy Act, was passed by the Erie County Legislature making Erie County the first county in New York State to ban businesses from collecting, storing, or selling customers' biometric data. I want to thank my colleagues in the Erie County Legislature Democratic Caucus for their support of this law. This law will protect the privacy of all Erie County residents.

The Erie County Legislature has formally adopted the 2026 Erie County Budget, approving a financial plan that balances strategic community investment with firm fiscal discipline. The final budget strengthens nonprofit and grassroots service organizations, directs dedicated funding to the county’s three cities, and removes a proposed $20 million jail design study; ensuring that county spending remains focused and responsible while decreasing the Property Tax Rate to its lowest level in Erie County history.

The county’s property tax rate, the amount of taxes charged for every $1,000 of assessed value to property owners, is also falling again to historically low levels – from $3.29 to $3.09 – thanks to increasing property values and new development.

🎗️ Today, on behalf of Chair Tim Meyers and Majority Leader John Gilmour, we recognize Childhood Apraxia of Speech Awareness Day in Erie County.

CAS is a rare neurological speech disorder affecting 1 in 1,000 children. We were proud to welcome Courtney Malicki, a Buffalo teacher, and her son Jack, who lives with apraxia. Their story highlights the strength and advocacy of families navigating this journey.

This proclamation is more than symbolic—it’s a commitment to awareness, support, and making sure every child has the tools to find their voice.

💙 To all families facing apraxia—we see you, we support you, and we thank you.
