The Lockport New York Central Train Station on Union Street is officially getting a new lease on life. This 1889 Romanesque landmark was also built for the New York Central Railroad, tying its rich heritage directly to our very own Buffalo Central Terminal.

Our former CTRC Board Chair, architect Paul Lang of Carmina Wood Design, is lending his expertise to help guide its stabilization alongside the owner! In his words, "The Lockport station is obviously very different in scale from the Central Terminal, but it represents another important piece of that same story."

Special architectural treasures like this are what make Western New York’s heritage so rich.

We know that progress takes patience, and we’re thrilled to follow this stabilization journey every step of the way!

If the New York Central Lockport Station could be restored, a wide range of tourism opportunities could fall into place along the Erie Canal. But it's a big "if." ⤵️ Find a link to the story in the comments.

Did You Know?

When Buffalo Central Terminal opened in 1929, it was one of the largest train stations in the country. The soaring office tower rises 17 stories above the city and was designed to symbolize Buffalo's importance as a transportation hub.

At its peak, thousands of passengers passed through the station every day, connecting Buffalo to destinations across the United States.

Today, thanks to decades of preservation efforts and community support, Buffalo Central Terminal continues its journey toward a new future while honoring its remarkable past.
