Step inside one of Buffalo’s oldest surviving stone buildings, beautifully restored and open for public summer hours Wednesdays 3:00 - 7:00 PM and Saturdays 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM, beginning May 20.

In a makeshift nursery at the Erie County forestry offices, dozens of little trees sit, waiting for their new homes.

Most of them – the maples, oaks, chestnut hybrids and pines – were rescued, one could say, from slaughter.

“Why do we go out and cut all these trees down, and then buy the same ones from nurseries?” asked Joshua Konovitz, county forester. “It seems counterintuitive.”
