In 1944 the Army sent three recruiters to Puerto Rico with orders to form a single unit of 200 women for the Women's Army Corps. More than 1,500 women applied. 🇵🇷

The ones selected trained at Fort Oglethorpe in Georgia and were sent as one unit to the New York Port of Embarkation, where they worked in the offices that planned the movement of American troops around the world. Many of them had never left the island before. They served in a segregated Hispanic unit, far from home, in a language and a climate that were not their own.

Their names are not the ones printed in the textbooks, but the work they did helped move an entire war. Tag a Puerto Rican veteran or a veteran's family who should see this tonight. Is there someone in your family who served in that generation?
