Shoutout to Jeff Deters with RCM for doing a walkthrough with Buffalo Illinois Fire Protection District, Mechanicsburg Fire & EMS, and Dawson Fire Protection District this evening! Your local departments gained more knowledge of the RCM elevators in both Mechanicsburg and Buffalo. Next week, we will be taking a tour of Dawson's RCM elevator as well. Some very helpful information right here! Please take a moment to read this post and check on your house numbers!

When you call 911, our crews work quickly to get to you. Clear, visible address numbers help us get to your door faster when every second counts.

Here's how to make sure we can spot your home:
- Make them big and bold. Use numbers at least 4 inches tall in a color that stands out from your house.
- Keep them visible. Trim back bushes, branches, and anything else blocking the view from the street.
- Light them up. Numbers that are easy to read during the day can disappear at night. Consider reflective numbers or a light nearby.
- Mark your driveway. If your home sits back from the road, put your address on your mailbox or a post at the end of the driveway too.

A few minutes checking your numbers today could save us precious time in an emergency. If we can find you fast, we can help you fast.
Take a walk out to the street tonight and see if you can read your own address. If you can't, we probably can't either.

Periods of showers and thunderstorms can be expected across central and southeast IL today, with the strongest storms this afternoon into evening. These storms will be capable of producing isolated damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph, locally heavy downpours exceeding 2 inches, and possibly a tornado or two, mainly west of Springfield.

On behalf of Buffalo Fire Protection District, we send our deepest condolences to the family, friends, Sangamon Co. Rescue Squad, and New Berlin Police Department for the passing of Chief Terry Nydegger. He was an extremely knowledgeable man who was dedicated to helping others, and spreading his knowledge where he could. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
