After longtime Buffalo Teachers Federation leader Phil Rumore’s retirement, an important election is underway to replace him as president. Voting began last week with three candidates running. Marc Bruno a teacher at Riverside HS who came close to beating Rumore is the best known candidate in the race. Melissa Kenny is promising to bring more resources to students. Another candidate is Rich Nigro, a teacher at the Culinary school. Nigro sees communication as a major issue. The winner will be announced on May 18.
Rumore led the BTF for 42 years and was a major force in the local labor movement.
