Magnolia Square Project Update

As we continue work in Magnolia Square and make improvements to the space, we’re repouring the concrete on top of the seating plaza wall.

We want Magnolia Square to be a place where our community can gather, celebrate, and make memories for generations to come. This work is part of our continued investment in the square and our commitment to creating a space that will stand the test of time.

Buena Vista is excited to celebrate the 55th Annual Labor Day Festival this upcoming Monday, September 7! From the parade and stumping speeches to live entertainment, food, and activities throughout the community, there will be plenty to enjoy.

Events like Labor Day are a great opportunity to bring our community together, welcome visitors, and showcase all that Buena Vista has to offer. We hope you'll come out, explore, enjoy the festivities, and support our local businesses along the way!

As we welcome students back to school, we're celebrating the schools and higher education institutions that help shape Buena Vista's future.

From Buena Vista City Public Schools and Parry McCluer, to Southern Virginia University and Mountain Gateway Community College, education plays a vital role in developing our workforce, supporting local businesses, and strengthening our community.

We wish everyone a successful school year filled with learning, growth, and new opportunities!

As another school year begins, we'd like to wish all of our students, teachers, faculty, staff, and families a wonderful year ahead!

Whether you're heading to Buena Vista City Public Schools, beginning a new semester at Southern Virginia University, continuing your education at Mountain Gateway Community College, or learning in another educational setting, we hope your year is filled with new opportunities, growth, and success.

We also encourage everyone in our community to help keep our students safe by slowing down in school zones, watching for children at bus stops and crosswalks, and staying alert as school traffic increases.

We had a wonderful time exploring downtown Buena Vista during this week’s Downtown Walking Tour! A big thank you to everyone who came out and to Main Street Buena Vista for hosting such a great opportunity to see some of the spaces that are helping shape the future of our downtown.

Throughout the tour, we visited the Virginia Innovation Accelerator, Buena Vista’s recently opened Visitor Center, the former Bank of America building, the library and old jail, Art on Magnolia, and a new build by Wayne Oyler.

Touring these spaces gave us an inside look at the revitalization work that has already taken place, the projects currently underway, and the exciting potential that remains throughout downtown.

We’re grateful to everyone who shared their time, stories, and vision with us. There is a lot happening in downtown Buena Vista, and we’re excited to see where it goes from here!

The Maury River is at the heart of our community, and the Riverwalk provides a scenic connection between our downtown and Glen Maury Park, offering beautiful river views along the way. Whether you're taking an evening walk, enjoying time in the park, or simply appreciating the scenery, the river is one of the many features that makes Buena Vista a special place to live and visit.

Thank you to everyone who voted and continues to support Buena Vista. We're proud to receive this recognition and grateful to call this beautiful riverfront community home.
