Even with all the rain, we are still in CMWSC Stage IV (4) drought.

Let's explain...

CMWSC Stage IV is BSEACD Stage III (due to BSEACD recently revising their data chart).

The BSEACD District has been in a Stage 3 Exceptional Drought since October 1, 2025. CMWSC gets most of its water from BSEACD.

Below, BSEACD explains why they are still in Stage 3 Exceptional Drought.

From the Barton Springs/Edwards Aquifer Conservation District (BSEACD) website: "District drought conditions are determined by two (2) key indicators: spring flow at Barton Springs and groundwater levels at the Lovelady monitor well. If either of these sites fall below their set drought threshold, the District can declare a deeper drought stage. To exit a drought stage, however, both indicators must raise above their respective thresholds.

This page provides the latest drought status, real-time data for Barton Springs flow and Lovelady groundwater levels, along with additional drought resources from throughout the area."

Feel free to visit the Barton Springs/Edwards Aquifer Conservation District (BSEACD) website for more details and to review their data. The chart below is dated 6/4/2026.

TWDB’s Water Weekly: The latest drought map for conditions as of June 2 shows drought contraction of seven or more percentage points for the second consecutive week. This week’s drought contraction was driven by improvements in South and West Texas and has reduced the total drought area in the state to its smallest extent in 2026. https://bit.ly/TexasWaterWeekly

🌱 Let it stand tall! Longer grass provides extra shade and helps lock in soil moisture longer. This is exceptionally important during times of drought. Give your mower (and your back) a break! Skip the mow and let your grass stand 3-4 inches. Here is the updated Texas Water Development Board report.

See that little red spot in the center near Austin? That area includes part of the Edwards Aquifer recharge region, where we still need significant rainfall to help replenish groundwater supplies.

We're not quite there. Please continue conserving water.

TWDB’s Water Weekly: The latest map for conditions as of May 19 shows no change in total drought area from the previous week, breaking a stretch of six consecutive weeks of drought contraction. With additional recent rainfall, we should see a return to drought contraction on next week’s map. https://bit.ly/TexasWaterWeekly
