A quick safety reminder as you’re enjoying Buda City Park this summer. ☀️⛈️

City Park is equipped with a weather detection system that monitors for lightning within 10 miles of the park. If lightning is detected, a weather alarm will sound.

When you hear the alarm, please leave the park area immediately and seek shelter in your vehicle or another safe location. Once conditions are safe, an all-clear announcement will let you know it's okay to return.

Thank you for helping us keep City Park safe for everyone!

Today, we observe Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and honors freedom. On this day in 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas and informed enslaved people that they were free under the Emancipation Proclamation, more than two years after the proclamation had been issued. Due to resistance and lack of enforcement in Texas, many had not been informed of their freedom until that day.

This past weekend, the City of Buda and the Buda Juneteenth Planning Committee joined together to honor the history and affirm the importance of acknowledging Juneteenth in our community today. We are thankful to everyone who joined us for a day filled with music, local vendors, activities, and more.
