We’d like to thank everyone who attended our Pond Clinic last night! We had 25 total attendees who learned about pond construction and design, controlling invasive plant species, fish stocking, and more! Great news! Enrolled acres have increased proportionately with the number of producers participating in the H2Ohio program! One practice being adopted in an exponential way is phosphorus placement. Directly injecting phosphorus into the soil helps to reduce surface run-off and places those nutrients into the soil profile where plants can more easily access them. When it rains, it pours! Our waterways have been working extra hard so far this year. For every one-foot-wide gully that runs 500 feet long you lose approximately 24 TONS of soil. Think of that as two dump trucks full of soil! Last year we installed 55,629 feet of waterway saving 2,687 tons of soil! That is 287 dump trucks of soil that are not downstream this spring! How’s that for some good conservation news! 💧💧

American Beech Leaf Disease (ABLD) is a fatal tree disease affecting all age classes of American Beech trees. It’s caused by larvae that damage leaf buds leading to leaf loss and tree death. Symptoms include dark stripes between the leaf veins and a thick, leathery leaf. Although the closest reported finding to our area has been in Delaware County, if you find trees on your property that exhibit ABLD contact ODNR Division of Forestry for further direction in mitigating the disease! 🌳🌳
