Did you know Ohio continues to lead the nation in the number of cases of La Crosse virus? Severe symptoms, such as seizures, coma and even paralysis, occur most frequently in children under the age of 16. Earlier this month, an Ohio 6th Grader from Ross County shared his story of battling La Crosse virus. La Crosse virus is mainly spread by the bite of the eastern treehole mosquito. These aggressive daytime biters can be found in suitable wooded habitat throughout most of Ohio. Mosquito activity will continue through October, and possibly November.

September 11th is Patriot Day, observed to commemorate the nearly 3,000 victims who died in the 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and those who perished when the hijacked United Airlines Flight #93 crashed in Pennsylvania. Additionally, this day also recognizes those who died bravely attempting to rescue people trapped by the attacks.
On this 25th Anniversary of 9/11, we encourage everyone to stand together, united as a Nation, spreading kindness to others, helping those in need, and remembering this day. It is also an opportunity to support and thank our many Crawford County first responders that have dedicated their lives to protecting us, our families, and our neighborhoods.

Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) is a common viral illness that often spreads in the fall in Ohio. HFMD is often confused with hoof-and-mouth disease which affects cattle, sheep & swine. However, the 2 diseases are caused by different viruses and are not related. Humans can not get the animal disease and animals can not get the human disease. It is spread by touching fluids from the nose or throat or stool (p**p) from an infected person. Best practices for preventing HFMD include handwashing, especially after wiping the nose or mouth, after using the bathroom, or changing diapers on a child, using disposable tissues instead of a handkerchief, and using household cleaners to disinfect surfaces often. Happy Labor Day! This is a day that pays tribute to the achievements of American workers. Created by the labor movement in the 19th century, it became a federal holiday in 1894. In observance of the holiday, all of our offices will be closed today, September 7th. We will reopen Tuesday morning, September 8th, at 8:00am.

Just two weeks away! We will be attending this FREE event and hope you will be there too. It will be an amazing evening full of hope, resilience, and stories that will tug at your heartstrings. Plus, some awesome artwork! All of the stories are local people in recovery and the artists creating the expressions of their recovery stories are local talents too. It will be an evening unlike any other! (There is also the bonus of being inside the beautiful Galion Community Theatre. And it's all free!) We look forward to spending the evening with you!

September is NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) Awareness Month. Together, the amazing healthcare workers in NICUs and families of critically ill infants face challenges and inspire hope in even the darkest of hours. Donated breast milk helps give babies in NICUs across the nation the best chance at health.
