Did you know Ohio continues to lead the nation in the number of cases of La Crosse virus? Severe symptoms, such as seizures, coma and even paralysis, occur most frequently in children under the age of 16. Earlier this month, an Ohio 6th Grader from Ross County shared his story of battling La Crosse virus. La Crosse virus is mainly spread by the bite of the eastern treehole mosquito. These aggressive daytime biters can be found in suitable wooded habitat throughout most of Ohio. Mosquito activity will continue through October, and possibly November.
