Crawford SWCD and the Board of Supervisors would like to thank Wynford FFA students for helping with our 2025 tree pack for our tree sale. Many hands made light work packing over 5,000 trees! We truly appreciate all the help!

Tick season is here!!
Ticks? Not really anyone’s favorite arachnids!! Here are some ways to decrease your chance of being bitten by these harmful pests while outdoors.
Know when and where to expect ticks. Blacklegged ticks are found in the woods; dog ticks are in grassy areas and road edges.
Use repellents according to labels.
Tuck your pants into your socks and boots and tuck your shirt into your pants.
Check yourself, family, and pets regularly and remove ticks immediately.
Use anti-tick products on pets.
If you are bitten by a tick, do not panic! Carefully remove the tick, including its mouth parts, from your skin using tweezers. Monitor your health the following days. While the CDC recognizes a 36-48 hour window is needed for disease transmission, there is evidence that transmission can occur sooner, call your physician if you see redness or a rash with fever, chills, headache, or muscle pain.

Looking to add some evergreens to your property? Check out the Fraser Fir! This is THE Christmas tree with its dark green color and well-known scent. This fir has a pyramidal form, strong branches, and softer, long-lasting needles. This moderately fast-growing fir can reach heights of 50 feet in full sun. It prefers moist, but well drained soil and will not tolerate road salt.

With Spring rains come the annual floods and the problems that can arise from them. Ohio does have drainage laws in place, but they can be complex and confusing for many landowners. Keeping in mind a few general rules of thumb can help you better understand drainage law. 1) We ALL depend on some form of drainage, regardless of where we live or how much land we use. 2) Every citizen has a responsibility to maintain drainage on their property. 3) Landowner’s have a right to “reasonable use” of water on their property and can alter the flow or use of water across or on the property, however that use cannot block or cause unreasonable damages to adjacent property owners. If you would like more information or have questions about drainage on your property, contact the Crawford SWCD office for assistance.
