Buckhannon Police and VIPS It is our vision to provide the community with professional law enforcement service while establishing lasting community partnerships.

Founded in October 2014, the Buckhannon Volunteers In Police Service (VIPS) assist the Buckhannon Police officers in various capacities within the city of Buckhannon. VIPS provide assistance with investigations, crowd control, traffic details, security checks, and various other tasks. While full members of the Buck

hannon Police Department, members of VIPS are not required to undergo identical training as the city officers. However as First Responders, VIPS members are required to receive training in First Aid and CPR, Community Emergency Response Training (CERT), and Citizen's Police Academy, as well as any other training deemed necessary.

On Friday, September 4th, 2026, the Buckhannon Police Department was dispatched to 33 West and the intersection of WBUC Road for a motor vehicle accident.

Once on scene officers located and observed that both drivers had sustained injuries. The drivers were treated by Upshur County EMS and the Buckhannon Fire Department. Lastly, both drivers were transported to UHC for additional treatment.

- This was our 2nd accident at this intersection within 24 hours.

Message/ Reminder from the Buckhannon Police Department:

Please make sure you are wearing your seatbelt and paying attention while you are operating a motor vehicle! Also, be aware of your surroundings as well when you are operating a motor vehicle please do not hesitate to wait at any intersection for a couple more seconds before you go. Those couple of seconds could save your life.
