What a great weekend! We inducted two great individuals Friday to the Friendly Way Wall (Tom Anderson & Rick Kitzmiller). We had over 40 past & present members attend our alumni annual luncheon. We entertained several of the out of town bands/groups participating in the festivities. We would like to thank all the agencies involved in providing a safe fun weekend for everyone that attended. Buckhannon Police, Upshur Co Sheriffs department, Upshur Co EMS, Upshur Co 911, WVU hospital, Banks Fire/ems, WV State Police, all City of Buckhannon employees that assisted, Randolph Co EMS, Weston Fire/EMS. Annually the members of the BFD are offered the opportunity to receive an annual blood draw that checks for cancers that are prevalent in the fire service. This is a very valuable service the City of Buckhannon funds to help assure the health and well being of our members of the BFD. We would like to thank our partners from WVU St Joes that assist in the process.

Next Thursday April 9th is the Buckhannon Volunteer Fire Departments regular monthly business meeting. It is held at 7:30 PM at the public safety complex. We would like too cordially invite any individual running for local elected positions (City/County) and State elected positions (House/Senate). This invite is also open to elected officials that are not up for election in 2026. Discussion points: Concerns with the future of emergency services, volunteerism, funding (local and state), what are the priorities in the future for our community.

Over the past couple weeks the BFD hosted a rope’s awareness/operations level class. The class was taught by Brian Potter one of the best rope guys in the business. Prior to the class, we determined that NO individual organization in Upshur County could handle complex rescue scenarios presented in class by themselves. We invited all agencies in Upshur County (fire/ems/law enforcement) to this class to learn rescue operations as a group. The following agencies were represented: Buckhannon Fire, Buckhannon Police, Washington District Fire, Upshur Sheriff’s Department, WV Natural Resources Police. This class will hopefully lead to joint training in the future.
