The Buckeye Fire Department provides fire protection and advanced life support care for the City of Buckeye. The Buckeye Fire Department is a full time (career) organization, serving the community from six Firehouses with approximately 87 staff positions. Currently, the department has six Class A pumpers, two 100 foot aerial trucks, a technical rescue support vehicle, two brush trucks, two command

vehicles and six staff vehicles. Our Fire trucks are staffed with a Captain, an Engineer, and 2 Firefighters. Each Fire Truck carries Advanced Life Support equipment, with at least 2 of our Firefighters being Paramedics. The City Of Buckeye Fire Department is a member of the nationally recognized valley wide automatic aid consortium in which all participants are dispatched via computer through the use of an automatic vehicle locator system regardless of the jurisdiction. This insures the closest appropriate unit and resources will respond and automatically access all of the fire resources of the greater Phoenix area.

Today, Buckeye had the distinct honor of welcoming Sgt. Maj. Carlos A. Ruiz of the United States Marine Corps, who made a special Memorial Day visit to our community. Sgt. Maj. Ruiz took time to meet with and personally visit veterans serving now in the Buckeye Police and Fire Departments, sharing insight, inspiration and camaraderie.

On this Memorial Day, we are reminded of the sacrifice made by so many who have worn our nation’s uniform. We extend our sincere gratitude to Sgt. Maj. Ruiz for his visit, his leadership, and his lifelong commitment to service.

This weekend, Buckeye Fire crews performed three separate rescues on the Victory Stairs trail. Summer temperatures have arrived, and conditions are becoming dangerously hot much earlier in the day.

If you plan to hike:
• Start early in the morning
• Stay hydrated before and during your hike
• Bring more water than you think you’ll need
• Know your limits
• Get out of the heat before temperatures peak

Arizona heat can overwhelm even experienced hikers very quickly. Help us keep you safe by planning ahead and making smart decisions outdoors this summer.

Hey Buckeye!

As summer approaches, here are three tips to check if your life jacket is ready to go.

• Test the fit by lifting at the shoulders, if it comes up above the ears, try to tighten it. If it doesn’t tighten, size down and try the test again to ensure the life jacket doesn’t come above the ears.
• Make sure your life jacket is U.S. Coast Guard Approved. You can check for the indicator logo on the label on the inner part of the life jacket.
• Make sure there are no rips or tears on the life jacket, don’t forget to check the outer covering and buckles to be sure it is in good condition.

If you’re unsure or have questions about your life jacket, come visit the Buckeye Aquatic Center and chat with one of our Lifeguards!

A barrier can help prevent drowning, and it’s required by law!

• Barriers should be five feet tall, with gaps no wider than four inches.
• Door alarms add an extra element of safety when paired with physical barriers.
• Gates should be self-closing, and locks should be out of kid’s reach.
