Mountain Discovery Charter School Nestled into the mountains of western North Carolina, Mountain Discovery Charter School is located in Bryson City.

The school serves children in kindergarten through eighth grade from Graham, Jackson, Macon, and Swain counties.

Miss Brook attempted to teach every kid in the school to tie their shoes this year. All 1st-8th grade students were assessed and then any kids who weren't proficient practiced with some 1 on 1 instruction. As a school, we went from 76% proficiency to 96%. Next year we hope to get to 100%, including Kindergarten!! Go Trailblazers!

6th Grade Camp Trip to Panthertown!

The 6th graders had an incredible time in Panthertown Valley. They hiked over 8 miles in one day and were rewarded with beautiful views and cooling waterfalls.

MDCS Earth and Environmental students recently presented their findings at Island Park in Cherokee as part of a collection of regional schools working to connect their cultural and environmental experiences with the proposed removal of the Ela Dam. Our students were examining the influence of the dam and subsequent removal on sediment load and its impact on endangered aquatic species. They did an outstanding job on their research and presentation and had a lot of fun along the way!
